FOR TEACHERS

CEDA at a glance

  • You’ll look after a group of high-school students as they teach in pairs in a local Khmer and English bilingual primary school for a week. Our programs are aligned with major high school semesters and Summer break holidays.
  • Students typically travel in teams of 8 to 12, with a CEDA program leader (an experienced qualified teacher like you) and a chaperone (usually a parent).
  • You prepare the students, and assist them through a week of teaching from 8am to 1pm. After lunch you’ll lead them in a 2-hour “reflect and prep” session to prepare for the next day.
  • On Saturday, there’s typically an opportunity to deliver a professional training session to some of the in-country teachers (although not guaranteed).

The CEDA program

  • CEDA trips run Sunday to Saturday. Teachers and Students land in Phnom Penh and are met at the airport. A shuttle transfers participants to the 4-star hotel.
  • Monday is orientation and training day at the school.
  • Tuesday to Wednesday is in-class teaching from 8am to 1pm. After lunch at the hotel, you lead students through reflection, and prepare them for the next day’s lessons. You’re done for the day.
  • Friday night is (weather permitting) a river cruise on the Tong Le river, before Saturday transfers to the airport.

Why choose a CEDA program?

PENDING

You’ve got questions: we’ve got answers…

I am a teacher at a school and have some students interested. What if I don’t have between 8 to 12 students?

Contact us and we will add you to a teacher wait list.

How does this differ to the chaperone’s role?

You have responsibility for the safety of your charges, though you will be supported by the CEDA program and local staff. You have a responsibility to attend school with the students in your group, and to assist with teaching challenges during the school day. You will lead the training day for students, supported by CEDA resources and will be responsible with liaising with local school staff. You will be supported by local teachers and local administration and do not need to speak the Khmer language to be involved with this program.

How does this differ to the chaperone’s role?

The chaperone’s role is to be primarily responsible for the safety of the students in the group in the afternoon and evening, after the afternoon preparation session ends.

Can I consume alcohol?

No alcohol is permitted during the day, including lunch. A minimal amount of alcohol is permitted at and after dinner. Inebriation is not permitted at any time. Drugs are not permitted at any time.

Awesome heading!

You will be taught and guided through the basic principles of effective teaching by an experienced, qualified teacher from an International school. Components of this training will include:

  • -Safety within the classroom
  • -Effective lesson planning and delivery
  • -How to engage and support your students
  • -Time to plan with your teaching partner

You will have some basic tasks to complete prior to arriving in Cambodia, such as some brief readings and observation of a lesson at your current school. This will ensure you arrive feeling confident and supported to be able to deliver lessons.

Student teachers will be provided with a structured lesson template to work within and a range of resources to support their classes. You will be expected to deliver lessons across a range of subjects to primary school aged students, who have varying levels of English speaking and writing capability. You may be teaching lessons on Math, Science, English, Arts and Crafts or Geography. By showing initiative and enthusiasm, the options are endless and any suggestions you have will be welcomed.

Your teacher will support you through on-going in-classroom and drop-in support, observations, and one on one feedback. They will be available throughout the trip and can draw on their experience as a qualified teacher from an International school to ensure you feel comfortable and efficient in the classroom.
